Interviewed by Viva La Fever Hailing from San Francisco, Ellion Ness is also known as The Thinking Man’s Redhead. She started in Burlesque in the late-1950s. She worked in the chorus line at a New Jersey Minsky theater and collected the costumes in the wings as the headliners stripped. Ness transitioned to a featured stripteaser mentored by Lili St Cyr and Dardy Orlando. Ness even had an act where she parodied the Prohibition agent from whom she took her name, entering in a fedora with a drawn pistol and exiting in little else. Interviewed by Neil ‘Nez’ Kendall Rubberlegs started performing in the early ’60s as a comic dancer and opening act for rock-n-roll shows. In 1969, he was invited to Nixon’s inaugural ball. He was in company with Lyle Hampton, Doc Severson, Dinah Shore, and Buddy Epson. James Brown even kissed him in a moment of excitement after running offstage. From 1978 to 1984, he owned his burlesque show, traveling around to state fairs.
